Faithfully Yours – Sapphire — September

Sapphire is derived from the Greek sappheiros or ‘blue stone’ and is the gemstone variety of the mineral corundum. It represents truth, sincerity and faithfulness in relationships. The power of the sapphire reputedly bestows enlightenment and was thought to be an antidote to depression.

Sapphire gemstones can be found in Eastern Australia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Kashmir, Madagascar, East Africa and North America – at Gem Mountain. They have had royal associations since biblical times – Aaron’s rod was supposedly made from solid sapphire.  Rare and naturally occurring ’star’ sapphires were worn as amulets for protection, often in the hilt of a sword or dagger.
