Viva las Vegas 2012 – Couture jewellery Show

In early June I was in Las Vegas for the largest jewellery show in the United States. It’s exhausting as as there are lots of different shows in various locations at the same time. For me Couture has the best selection of fine and unusual jewellery, and I do my most important buying there. For Autumn 2012 I’ve bought the new Rodney Rayner collection (UK) and Melissa Joy Manning and S&R Designs (US.)

Armenta’s latest collection includes striking boulder opal designs in blues and greens set off by black silver and gold – outstanding.

New to Talisman Gallery Harvey Nichols are Yossi Harari from Israel, Alan Sepkus from the US and Aida Bergsen from Turkey. Aida’s collection has just arrived in store now, with more pieces following in September.

Couture hosts the annual Town and Country Awards. There were magnificent pieces in seven categories. I’m delighted that Rodney Rayner won in the Coloured Gemstone under $20,000 category, as there is huge competition for this award, and the hardest to win.

Rayner Couture Award 2012

Amongst the finalists and winners in other major Awards categories are jewellers whose work I sell, including Sevan Biçakçi, Elena Votsi and Lucifer Vir Honestas.

It was a great show for meeting new designers like Madyha Farooqui, and catching up with friends and colleagues in the international jewellery world. It was a shock to the system to return to a cold, wet windy London after a week in 105 degree Vegas sunshine…
